Ten years ago I was living in Shanghai, visiting a friend in Bangkok. He took us to a Japanese place that had just opened around the corner: yakitori and sake. I'd had sake before, but this was something else. The best I'd ever tasted. The owner told us about his trips to Japan, the breweries he'd visited, the people behind the bottles. I was mesmerised. That was the spark.
Since then I've tasted sake wherever I could find it: Amsterdam, London, New York. Now I'm working toward becoming a certified sake sommelier, and this hub is built from that study: the ideas that make things click, the bottles that surprise me, the shops and events worth your time.
I'm not an expert writing from a distance. I'm a few steps ahead of you, and I write down what actually helps, in plain language, whatever you drink the rest of the week. The guides here grow as I learn, and the newsletter is where everything new lands first.
